• We are allied health professionals with a university qualification in the field of Speech Pathology.

Speech pathology is a self-regulated profession. This means that in order to obtain the status as a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist, we must meet the relevant standards set out by our national peak body, Speech Pathology Australia.

Speech Pathologists are trained to assess, treat and manage communication (& swallowing) disorders in people across the lifespan. This can include difficulties with speech, language, stuttering, literacy, social skills and voice.

At CMB Speech Pathology we are a paediatric practice which means we are primarily focused on providing support to children and adolescents (kindergarten and school age) with difficulties in the areas of speech, stuttering, language and literacy.

  • You do not need a referral to make an appointment with a speech pathologist. You can simply contact us to discuss your concerns and to arrange an initial consultation.

If you have received a referral through your GP or other government funding system, please let us know when contacting us.

In cases where you may be eligible to claim rebates on services, we can provide you with the relevant documentation and codes needed for you to process these.

  • Telehealth is a video conferencing service and an alternative to traditional face-to-face speech pathology sessions. Telehealth allows us to work with you and your child online in cases where you may be unable to attend sessions in person.

Online telehealth sessions are ideal for families who may be located outside of the Sunshine Coast area or interstate, as well as for families with home commitments, or who may be experiencing health concerns.

To access the CMB Speech Pathology telehealth service, you will need a device with a camera (e.g. computer /iPad) and a stable internet connection.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about the CMB Speech Pathology telehealth service, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • A CMB Speech Pathology assessment involves an initial consultation and any number of assessment sessions with you and your child (to a maximum duration of 60-90 mins/session).

These sessions allow us an opportunity to gather important information needed to formulate an appropriate support plan for your child.

During an initial consultation session, we will meet with you either face-to-face or via phone/telehealth to discuss the following:

    • your child’s early development, as well as relevant family and medical histories

    • your child’s strengths and interests

    • any challenges that your child may be experiencing at home and/or school

    • any concerns that you and/or others may have regarding your child’s communication and/or learning

    • any relevant reports that you may have received (e.g. school or specialist)

    • any other information relevant to the development and support of your child’s communication and/or learning

The information provided during the initial consultation will help us to determine an appropriate assessment plan for your child, including the number and types of assessments required.

At CMB Speech Pathology, we are experienced in administering a variety of assessment tools and techniques to help identify specific areas of strength and challenge in your child’s communication profile.

Some of the tools/techniques that may be utilised in the assessment of your child’s communication skills include:

    • parent and educator interviews and/or questionnaires

    • observations

    • standardised assessments

    • non-standardised assessments

    • informal assessments and probes

    • speech and language samples (may include audio recording)

    • examinations of the mouth and nasal structures and functions

    • fluency ratings

Results of assessment will be scored (where applicable), interpreted and analysed to determine a best-fit therapy or management plan that meets the needs of you and your child.

We will also arrange a follow-up appointment with you to discuss assessment results, any implications for the home/school environment and recommendations for therapy or management.

This will be scheduled in-person or via phone/telehealth within 3-4 weeks of the final assessment session. At this follow-up appointment, a copy of your child’s assessment report will be provided to you.

At CMB Speech Pathology, we aim to provide services that are supportive and enjoyable for you and your child. If you are looking to access speech pathology support for your child and have any hesitations or queries regarding what is involved, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

  • CMB Speech Pathology offers speech and language screening services to kindergartens and primary schools.

Screening typically consists of a number of short assessment tasks to identify if difficulties are present. They can also be used to identify if a child’s speech and language skills are within or below the level expected for their age.

CMB Speech Pathology provides screening assessments for children’s speech, language, stuttering, early literacy and pragmatic language skills.

Following screening, families and educators will receive a summary report of their child’s results. If difficulties are identified, further assessment and therapy may be recommended.

CMB Speech Pathology works with educators to identify patterns in student data in order to support with the development of plans for whole class (tier 1) speech/language/literacy support. More individualised support and recommendations for learning adjustments can also be provided.
